Early Period

Still Life is a fairly uncommon subject for my art today, but in 1987 (a rather prolific year for my pencil work) I was looking for real objects to draw rather than working from photographs. I had a red & black scarf and set it up with my wire-framed glasses. I couldn't do this today because we have two cats and one or both of them would end up sleeping on the scarf and spoiling the setup. Also, I've become more near-sighted over the years, so with my glasses as part of a still life and not on my face, I would be forced to draw this setup sitting within just a few inches in order to focus.
